Last Saturday saw our 3rd team beat Civil Service to win the Whelan Cup in Park Avenue.
Having won the toss, Civil Service decided to bat first. An excellent knock of 54 from Sheik, and good contributions from Tamirmani and Jacob helped them to a score off 111 off their 20 overs. Mudassar Zahid and Kashif Qazi took 2 wickets each, and Sandy Sood and Daniel Mooney both claimed a wicket each.
A superb innings of 58 unbeaten from Ciaran Morrison, aided by Mudassar Zahid's 38 not out saw County chase down the target of 112 inside 15 overs.
Now that the dust has settled on his side's victory on Saturday, captain Irfan Arshad has given us a few words: "First of all I would like to say thank you to the Railway Union for hosting the game at their ground. I would also like to thank the umpires for the role they played in facilitating the game, and of course I would like to thank Civil Service for an excellent game, played in very good spirits.
"I would like to thank Eddie for working hard with us in training. All of the lads really appreciate the work that he puts in.
"We had fantastic support on the day of the final and I would like to thank everyone who drove up there and to support us.
"Finally, I would like to thank the guys, who played good cricket and backed up each other. The 3rd team is like a family, and the 3rd is the dream team!"
